PorchList ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data. By using PorchList, you agree to the practices described here.

1. Information We Collect

Account information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, phone number, password, and your role (homeowner, realtor, or contractor). Contractors and realtors also provide a business name, service area, and trade category.

Profile and content

We collect the content you post, including recommendations, comments, poll responses, event RSVPs, photos, and direct messages within your community groups.

Location information

If you choose to use location features, we collect your approximate location to show nearby contractors and communities. We never collect precise location data without your explicit permission.

Usage data

We collect standard usage information such as the pages you visit, features you use, and general device and browser information. This helps us improve the product.

Third-party sign-in

If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from those services (name and email). We do not receive your passwords or payment information from third-party providers.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and manage your account
  • To operate the community platform and display contractor recommendations
  • To send you notifications about activity in your communities (you can adjust these in settings)
  • To improve and develop the product
  • To communicate with you about your account or important updates
  • To prevent fraud and ensure platform safety

We do not use your personal information to serve you targeted advertising, sell your data to third parties, or build advertising profiles.

3. How We Share Your Information

Within your community

Your name, role, and the content you post are visible to other members of the communities you join. Contractor profiles (name, category, location, and community recommendation score) are visible to members of communities where you are recommended.

Service providers

We use Supabase for database and authentication infrastructure. These providers process data on our behalf under strict confidentiality agreements and may not use your data for their own purposes.

Legal requirements

We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the public.

We do not sell your personal information to anyone. Ever.

4. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal reasons. Community content (posts, recommendations) may remain anonymized in our system.

5. Your Rights and Choices

  • Access: You can view and export your personal data by contacting us.
  • Correction: You can update your account information in settings at any time.
  • Deletion: You can delete your account from the settings screen. We will remove your personal data within 30 days.
  • Notification controls: You can manage push notification preferences in your account settings.

6. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encryption at rest and in transit, secure authentication, and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we take the protection of your data seriously and promptly address vulnerabilities when they are discovered.

7. Children's Privacy

PorchList is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through a notice in the app. Continued use of PorchList after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
